Evidence for Spectropolarimetric Diversity in Type Ia Supernovae We present single-epoch, postmaximum spectropolarimetry of four Type Iasupernovae (SNe Ia) that span a range of spectral and photometricproperties: SN 2002bf and SN 2004dt exhibit unusually high-velocity (HV)absorption lines. SN 1997dt is probably somewhat subluminous, and SN2003du is slightly overluminous. We detect polarization modulationsacross strong lines in all four objects, demonstrating that all areintrinsically polarized. However, the nature and degree of thepolarization varies considerably. Including all SNe Ia studied thus far,the following order emerges in terms of increasing strength ofline-polarization features: ordinary/overluminous

Stars with ISM Polarization Observed with HPOL Polarization data are given for stars whose polarizations are mostlyinterstellar which were observed for various programs with theUniversity of Wisconsin spectropolarimeter (HPOL) during 1989-1994.

Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue. We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star, when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.

A catalog of far-ultraviolet point sources detected with the fast FAUST Telescope on ATLAS-1 We list the photometric measurements of point sources made by the FarUltraviolet Space Telescope (FAUST) when it flew on the ATLAS-1 spaceshuttle mission. The list contains 4698 Galactic and extragalacticobjects detected in 22 wide-field images of the sky. At the locationssurveyed, this catalog reaches a limiting magnitude approximately afactor of 10 fainter than the previous UV all-sky survey, TDl. Thecatalog limit is approximately 1 x 10-14 ergs A sq cm/s,although it is not complete to this level. We list for each object theposition, FUV flux, the error in flux, and where possible anidentification from catalogs of nearby stars and galaxies. Thesecatalogs include the Michigan HD (MHD) and HD, SAO, the HIPPARCOS InputCatalog, the Position and Proper Motion Catalog, the TD1 Catalog, theMcCook and Sion Catalog of white dwarfs, and the RC3 Catalog ofGalaxies. We identify 2239 FAUST sources with objects in the stellarcatalogs and 172 with galaxies in the RC3 catalog. We estimate thenumber of sources with incorrect identifications to be less than 2%.

Interstellar polarization at high galactic latitudes from distant stars. 2: First results for Z less than or equal to 600 PC We present the first results from our Crimean-Tuorla program forpolarimetry of distant stars at high galactic latitudes. The availableobservations reveal a clear increase in the interstellar linearpolarization of A and F stars, up to Z approximately equals 600 pc whereone reaches PV approximately equals 0.25%. This means anaverage AB greater than or equal to 0.11 mag over thenorthern polar cap for the diffuse component of the interstellarextinction that we are probing. There is no clear indication in the datathat the asymptotic level of PV has been reached, and withfuture observations above Z = 600 pc we shall investigate this question. The trend found is in agreement with the stellar reddening analysis byTeerikorpi (1990). The directions of the plane of vibration are inagreement with Markkanen's (1979) analysis of closer (Z less than 200pc) stars in his 'Area II'. Outside of this area we define two sectors Band C which encompass the Local Spiral Arm and had little stars inprevious investigations. Here the polarization vectors deviate stronglyfrom those in Markkanen's Area II, where one is probably looking at aninterarm region, close to the edge of the Local Spiral Arm. Ourmeasurements indicate for B and C average polarization vectorsconsistent with the direction l approximately equals 110 deg obtained byother authors for the magnetic field in the Local Spiral Arm using therotation measure method.

Radial-velocity measurements. V - Ground support of the HIPPARCOS satellite observation program The paper presents data on 1070 radial velocity measurements of starsdistributed in 39 fields measuring 4 deg x 4 deg. The PPO series ofFehrenbach et al. (1987) and Duflot et al. (1990) is continued using theFehrenbach objective prism method.

Toward selection of intermediate-magnitude polarization standards The Minipol optical polarimeter with a V-band filter was used to observe16 summer intermediate-magnitude (mB = about 9) stars from the survey ofMathewson and Ford (1970). These stars were chosen to span polarizationpercentages from zero to almost 6 percent and to cover a large range ofpolarization position angles. The primary reason for reobserving thesestars was to determine their V-band polarization properties and toidentify polarization variables, which are unsuitable standards. TheMinipol observations showed that 12 of the stars had V-bandpolarizations that were very similar to the Mathewson and Ford B-bandvalues. One star had a significantly different polarization positionangle and two had significantly different percentage polarizations. Onestar, HD 161306, was wildly different in both percentage polarizationand position angle.

Prediction of spectral classification from photometric observations-application to the UVBY beta photometry and the MK spectral classification. I - Prediction assuming a luminosity class An algorithm based on multiple stepwise and isotonic regressions isdeveloped for the prediction of spectral classification from photometricdata. The prediction assumes a luminosity class with reference touvbybeta photometry and the MK spectral classification. The precisionattained is about 90 percent and 80 percent probability of being withinone spectral subtype respectively for luminosity groups I and V and forluminosity groups III and IV. A list of stars for which discrepanciesappear between photometry and spectral classification is given.

Detection of errors in spectral classification by cluster analysis Cluster analysis methods are applied to the photometric catalogue ofuvby-beta measurements by Hauck and Lindemann (1973) and point out 249stars the spectral type of which should be reconsidered or thephotometric indices of which should be redetermined.
